What is the Litemover?

How many hours have you – or someone on your crew – been stuck up in the basket of a condor? Or how many times have you adjusted a light in the air, brought it down so you could get back on the ground, sent it back up and now, mysteriously, the light isn’t hitting quite the way the DP wanted? Time to climb back in the basket!

The Litemover is a solution to this special headache. It’s specialized system is designed to control lighting fixtures remotely. It has a junior pin that allows it to drop onto any standard lighting stand with a junior receiver. So the Litemover is compatible with anything from a candlestick to a Long John Silver stand. This also means you can mount it on truss. And don’t worry, you can set your light in a perched or underslung position.

From the ground, an SLT can pan, tilt, and focus lights. The Litemover can be controlled via a wired remote or a dimmer board with hardline DMX. Once you get used to it, a few flicks of a fader is all you need to control your Arrimax when it’s 80ft overhead.

A variety of lights can be utilized with a Litemover, including Arri Skypanels and Arrimax, Cineo, Fiilex, and Filmgear. As long as the light has a yoke (or somewhere to grab beneath and behind the light), then the Litemover will be able to tilt it. There are specific adaptors for different lights, like for instance a clamp-like adaptor to bite the underside of a Skypanel S360. If no adaptor exists for your requested light, Geronimo Creek is happy to custom build adaptors (as we’ve done with a Mole Richardson 20k).

Enhance Set Safety

Needless to say, safety is the top priority for every crew member. Because a Litemover can be controlled remotely, it can significantly reduce “ladder work”. Many accidents on set are related to working on ladders, so by simply getting technicians back on the ground, it can have a significant safety after-effect. When ladder work is lessened, set electricians can save a bit of energy and take a well-deserved break.

In addition to safety, the Litemover offers incredible efficiency. One person can dial in the perfect angle in seconds. This speed allows the Director of Photography to see changes in real-time without pausing the production and having to drive a scissor lift straight through set to adjust a light!

The Litemover provides smooth, motorized movements that are difficult to achieve by hand. Moreover, it maintains the position of the fixture perfectly once set. This level of control is invaluable when you are matching lighting across different takes or scenes.
